As the tale o' tale goes, the American dream has, since I can remember, consisted of a white picket fence, brick fireplace, 2.5 kids, a dog and a cat. Dreamy, right?
And as it seemed, it was working quite well for most. Until the recession hit. What did we see beside the market crash, unemployment rate skyrocket? Well, leading up to it, we could say the rise in divorce rates, crime, obesity, debt and general unhappiness for a while now.
Let's face it, the American dream ain't so shiny. So what does work, I ask.
The generation emerging knows that building their own path is the only thing that guarantees success--and a college degree does not (although I highly recommend going to college no matter how much spirit of the entrepreneur you might have).
The American dream I have is much more focused on the little things in life and a strange concept: stepping away from the norm, waking up from the dream. '
What isn't working in this picture? Obviously too much of almost anything gets us in the red, so I say let's move on back to the black.
Before I tell you my ideas, I'd like to hear yours. Shout them out here, I'll be waiting.
Life is for Sharing.
My life in my words.

(Re)Commitment
I could tell you I broke 10 fingers and couldn't quite figure out how to type with my toes. I could say I was lost at sea and no Wi-Fi was available. But the reality is, I just didn't commit to my blog and took a bit of an unneeded break.
How important is commitment and upkeep when hosting a blog, Twitter page, LinkedIn profile, or any other social media tool? It makes all the difference. I learned understanding your audience is vital in this position--without consistently posting interesting content, you're not supporting the relationship you have built with your readers, followers or otherwise, and it will cost you. Dearly.
Many say it's blogging 101 to just pick up where you left off and not mention the "break." Well, I'm just not that savvy. People notice either way, so why not share the lesson I've humbly learned?
Your audience is expecting a message from you--ready to be engaged--, and you're not delivering. What will they do? They will look/read/tweet + post elsewhere. Could you blame them? They won't miss you--there is plenty of interesting, informative and lively content on the Web to be found. So respect their time and commitment to you and stay committed to them through the connecting factor.
This brings me to the top three times when staying connected matters most.
3. Job hunt. I am an upcoming graduate of Oklahoma State University, studying pr + advertising. Social media is vital, again let me stress, vital to these fields. I argue that social media is pr's baby. Connecting + engaging is the career, social media is the tool. This includes connecting with potential employers. If you can't stay committed and connected to your personal audience, how is an employer to expect you could do it for them? Detrimentally loosing brownie points there.
2. Business growth + relations. It's business, baby. Support your business; make it available to potential, returning and current customers. Keep it relevant and up-to-date. Enough said.
1. I want your opinion. When is it most important to be consistently connected? Post a comment below!
By now you're probably laughing at my advise, "How dare she?! She was on blogging hiatus!" You're right--all I am doing is stating my lesson-learned in the hopes you won't do the same. I'll see you next week, unless I break another finger...
P.S.: Floating in the middle of Web space will. anger. thousands of Googlers.
--------My insight--------
Social + digital media is testing its expandability in the market place, and alas, is growing at an impressive pace. Still growing strong since 2000, actually. Can you imagine what would happen if social media as a whole took a break? Chaos. And in your segment of the social media realm it is important to realize why staying committed to your online presence is so important.
